Design is partnership and collaboration combined with conversation.

We partner with you to design and build spaces, systems and interactions to engage audiences at multiple scales of visual communication. We work on projects, proposals and speculations in the arts, architecture and media.

As a consultancy with over fifteen years of experience as a designer, educator and artist, our clients have ranged from educators to architects, community organizations to artists, filmmakers, photographers, publishers, museums, entrepreneurs, writers and scholars.

    Before founding For Instance, Lisa cut her teeth in New York City at various branding agencies, subsequently landing at the architecture and design publication Metropolis magazine to work in a tight-knit art department as an Assistant Art Director (and later, Interim Art Director) with a team of editors and writers. From 2008 to 2014, she taught design courses at Parsons School for Design and Queens College CUNY. Since 2017, she has served as an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Kansas City Art Institute. She is an active board member serving as Chair of Education for AIGA Kansas City.

    Lisa holds an MFA and BFA in Graphic Design from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and a post-graduate certificate in Typeface Design from Type@Cooper NYC.
